about

I guess "defining.." seemed a long time away, we were still playing a few of those songs, improvising a lot and My relatonship with K had deteriorated severely due to my own error/s. I'm sure songs were written and forgotten for a while then discarded. Playing heaps of happy shows with amazing other Brisbane bands forgotten like us. And so we're going out, being self-confessed idiots doing a lot buckets and nangs and gin and juice at the time, maybe just a bit more experienced at this DIY home recordin cd-rbizz, (debateably). I'd been getting onto some Teo Marcero vibe because apparently mixes various takes of miles davis' fusion songs, they 'jammed out onto tape. hence the tight edits and crazy changeups here and there.

Between that and our newfound love of the genius trio of david axelrod/earl palmer/carole kaye, (like, check the rip on "kindling" off the following record) combined with Leons's weird ass/library/french funk/varied style he played in DJ'sets. While me and robot were off purchasing ragga jungle 12 inches. One night while out drinking after a show Karla, Leon & I reduced a member of "youth group" to tears, seeing him then smashing his own CD and leaving the table. I guess they win and stay forever young. I really think Jeremy's drumming had become amazing by now.

this record turned out ok despite the, disparate, mess of influences, my anti-pop standards, hell the heck. the improv editing was gnarled and illustrates part of the band live you wouldn't get to hear now or probably then/////.

ps this is the last record with Karla on it and it is what it is.

s.press uncredited thru time live review as follows:

"Coda guitarist Leon Dufficy backs up for a set with Shuriken, also a five-piece. Watching how differently he plays (he's much more choppy and rhythmic this time around, and he's matched in this respect by singer Matthew Jonas) It's immediately obvious how far removed from each other these bands are - where coda waft, shuriken groove

The latter are more abrasive and guitar-based, with bass guitar playing a key role in underpinning this groove. Jeremy Cole's drumming also sets this band apart, adding to the catchiness of upbeat songs like 'karaoke' It's been a couple of years since Shuriken released 'Defining attempts at structure' and while songs from that disc are featured here, they also have a fair amount of new material that's set to appear on a new recording currently in the works."

Shuriken Brisbane, Australia

5, then 4 kids from Brisbane, egos and record collections spiraling wildly out of control decide to conquer their own internal logic of indie/rock/art/improv/musick. monumental failure. documents were left behind, wasted gigabytes of files were created + slain. time has no meaning. unlikely to ever be resurrected beyond this digital eulogy. will refrm 4 ATP 10 thou minimum.
